Stages of Writing Process: Prewriting

Step 1. Prewriting

Prewriting involves brainstorming and organizing ideas before writing. Here are some common prewriting activities:

Mind Mapping: Visualizing ideas and their connections.

Free Writing: Writing continuously for a set time without worrying about grammar or structure.

Outlining: Creating a structured outline of the main points and supporting details.

List Making: Generating lists of ideas, topics, or arguments to explore.

Below are some examples of the drafting process, where students were task with brainstorming topics and ideas exploring " Kittitian Food".

NB. Brainstorming can often look a bit messy, as it is a free-flowing exploration of thoughts.

Reflecting on the Pre- writing process

Reflecting on the prewriting process, we recognize its significance in fostering creativity and organization in writing. Engaging in activities like mind mapping, free writing, outlining, and list-making allows us to explore ideas freely and connect thoughts in a meaningful way. Each method offers unique benefits, encouraging a comprehensive approach to brainstorming.

For example, mind mapping visually captures relationships between concepts, which can spark innovative ideas. Free writing provides a pressure-free environment, enabling us to unleash our thoughts without the constraints of grammar or structure. Outlining serves as a roadmap, ensuring our writing stays focused and organized, while list-making helps us identify key points and details to develop.

As we reflect on our experiences with these prewriting techniques, we appreciate the messy nature of brainstorming as a vital part of the creative process. This exploration often leads to unexpected insights and a deeper understanding of the topics we wish to write about, such as "Kittitian Food."

Ultimately, prewriting lays the foundation for clearer, more structured writing, making it an essential step in our overall writing journey.
